I found that Xfinity stream worked fine with my Roku on another TV, so bought the Roku Express 4K for under $30 and set it up on my newer Samsung, set up Xfinity Stream through the Roku and it works perfectly.

The Roku device is working fine with other apps (Netflix, Prime, etc.). The device is fully up to date on its software and connections are all good.
