It doesnt matter if it touches, the new supports still have a few niggles. If theres support it will print a base 3mm out from it, removing sections near the model based on the XY separation value. I have a couple of projects I am working on now where I think this supports would be awesome and not require me to make so many design changes for some miniscule overhangs. They define surfaces where support should and should not be applied. They do NOT act like keep out areas. They also do NOT apply to the print bed, only to the model. Once those surfaces are defined though the support generation algorithm takes over.
